Homeschooling arts and crafts is part of homeschooling fun, however, tidying up can be exhausting. Here are simple tips to reduce clean-up sessions.

Homeschool arts and crafts is an essential avenue for creative expression, even among toddlers. But when children are that young, tidying up can be a tiring chore. Here are a few tips to enjoy arts and crafts sessions with little children, while minimizing the tidying-up time

Plan Projects in Advance

Arts and crafts sessions need a bit of planning. To reduce tidying-up stress, loosely plan a project-per-day basis, and make a check-list of all supplies that are needed for that session.

When laying out supplies, remove unwanted containers or other equipment that can add to the mess of the session, like extra glue or glitter. Even scrap paper for a collage can be stashed away in a small box or envelope and only introduced when needed.

When it comes to paints, invest in paint tubes. Only squeeze out the paints that are needed. One color per plastic bowl would be a good way to start, as this would reduce the risk of paints mixing with each other and causing a mess. Remove the paint tubes that are not in use. Another tip would be to use one brush per color, rather than having a bowl present to wash brushes. Of course, if this is necessary, shallow bowls are less likely to tip over as compared to cups or canisters.

A little wastage is inevitable, so keep a recycling bin or box nearby to dispose off the scraps. This is also a good way to teach little children on the importance of recycling.

Protect the Area and Children from Stains

Usually, it is hard to come by a pristine home if there are children living in it. But reduce the risk of stains by lacing old newspaper to protect the area and / or floor area. Old newspaper can be easily recycled. A plastic mat is also a good idea and can be hosed down for future use. If there is plenty of water and paints around, keeping some towels nearby will minimize the mess. These can be tossed into the washing machine later.

Protect the children with aprons or well-used clothes.

Enjoy Arts & Crafts Outside!

Take the homeschoolers outdoors for arts and crafts. A significant amount of time tidying up can be curbed by allowing them to paint on the porch or in the garden. Keep the recycling bin at hand but allow them to fully express themselves while enjoying the presence of nature.

Homeschool arts and crafts is one of the most enjoyable activities when homeschooling toddlers, but some times tidying-up is a high price to pay. With a bit organization and planning, one would be able to let loose and enjoy doing the same, without having to deal with too much of a mess after each activity.
